Search Suggestions    Avvertenze in lingua italiana  Help (versione italiana)

The search engine provides for the entry of one or more fields, at least one has to be entered.

The star character '*' widens the search range, allowing also to search for portions of words, and specify in which position they are placed within the word complete. The following examples should clarify the operation. Suppose you want to find, in the Title, the words 'landlord' and 'landlady': you can use the expression 'land*' and the search engine will forward all the Titles containing words beginning with 'land' (including of course, Titles containing words such as 'landowner' or 'landscape'). Suppose you want to find, in the Title search, the words 'farmyard' and 'shipyard': you can use the expression '*yard' and the search engine will find all the Titles containing words ending by 'yard' (including of course, Titles containing words such as 'courtyard' and 'backyard'). The star character may be used also in a combined way, that is placing it both at the beginning and at the end of the word. The results will include all the words containing the searched word. To make an example, the search string '*red*' will show all Titles containing words like 'red', but also like 'accredited', 'covered' and 'redwood'. Furthermore, the star character may be used several times in same search string, and the criterions above will remain true for each one.

Each field has to contain at least two characters (besides the star character '*').

The search strings are not Case Sensitive, i. e. no difference are made between small and capital letters (e.g., if looking for a Title by Author, using 'Alighieri', 'alighieri' or 'ALIGHIERI' will obtain you exact the same result) and the spaces both at the beginning and at the end of words are ignored.

The fields entered are meant to be linked by the logical relation AND. For example: suppose that in a search for Titles you enter 'Divine Comedy' in the Title field and 'alighieri' in the Author field; the search engine will find all the texts including the title (or part of it) i. e. 'Divine Comedy' linked to the Author i. e. 'alighieri'.

For some fields, it is possible to select the type of search you want to carry on; the possible options are:

PHRASE BEGINNING or NAME BEGINNING: These refer to the possibility of specifying to specify how the search field must begin. Referring to the previous example: all the Titles beginning with 'Divine Comedy' would be sought.

PHRASE or NAME:

It simply indicates that the phrase entered shall be sought for in the middle of the title field. For the 'Divine Comedy': you would find (besides obviously the PHRASE BEGINNING cases), also texts as 'Hell: Divine Comedy' and 'Heaven: Divine Comedy'.

TEXT CONTAINED:

It indicates that the phrase entered will be sought for also in the midst of words. In the 'Divine Comedy' example, texts as 'Ludivine's Comedy winter' would be found.

ALL WORDS or IGNORE NAMES ORDER:

This option allows the user to ignore the order in which the words to be found are specified. Entering 'Divine Comedy' will result in both texts listed in the PHRASE example above and texts, such as the '*Comedy of the Great Divine'.

AT LEAST ONE WORD or AT LEAST ONE NAME:

This option is similar to the one above only that, not all the words need to be included in the text you look for.Considering the previous example, you will obtain all the Titles containing 'Divine', or 'Comedy', or both.
